Fire Restrictions Go Into Effect in Wasatch County

Fire restrictions in Wasatch County go into effect Wednesday morning.

Open fires, smoking in areas near dry vegetation, using fireworks, and cutting, welding and grinding metal are outlawed for the summer as of Wednesday. The restrictions are implemented by the Wasatch Fire District.

It is also prohibited to operate a motorcycle, chainsaw, ATV or other types of small combustion engines without a spark arrestor handy.

There are some exceptions to the rule on open fires. They are still allowed in public facilities like campgrounds and picnic areas. At private homes, in a permanently constructed fire pit, it is okay to have a fire if there is running water available.

As for smoking, it is still allowed within an enclosed vehicle, on a developed recreation site or in paved areas.
