Summit County Sheriff Department Investigating Argument At Kimball Junction McDonalds

The Summit County Attorney’s office is reviewing an incident for possible charges—after a confrontation occurred last Monday between a customer at the Kimball Junction McDonald’s and an employee.

The Sheriff’s department reported they got a call shortly after 10 p.m. on Monday night, the 14th.

Sheriff’s Lt. Andrew Wright said that a drive-through customer, identified as a 43-year-old Lehi resident, didn’t receive the right order. He circled around again to the drive-through and complained to a female staffer at the window.   The customer alleged she was rude and directed him to park in the wait area near the drive-through lane.

A male employee, identified as a 29-year-old Evanston resident, brought out the corrected order. The customer said the employee was very rude and challenged the older man to get out of his car.   He claimed the employee, who was carrying a grill scraper, threatened him with assault.

Contacted by officers, the employee said the customer had an attitude.  He said it was the driver who asked about stepping out of the car, and also asked if the employee wanted to harm him. During the confrontation, he also slapped down the customer’s hand as he was holding a cell phone.

The employee said as he walked back toward the restaurant, the customer drove toward him, and he got scared. The younger man admitted he did spit on the car but didn’t threaten him with the scraper.

Lt. Wright said they obtained surveillance footage from the restaurant and did confirm there was an exchange between the two men but didn’t verify other details.
