Hubble Picture of Eagle Nebula

John and guest co-host Jack Ruben’s  first guest this morning is Dr. Carrie Nugent who has written, Astroid Hunters. What are asteroids, and where do they come from? And, most urgently: Are they going to hit this little planet of ours? What would happen if one was on its way? Carrie Nugent is an asteroid hunter—part of a group of scientists working to map our cosmic neighborhood. For the first time ever, we are reaching the point where we may be able to prevent the horrible natural disaster that would result from an asteroid collision.  The 2nd guest this morning is Dr. Joel Green, who is a Project Scientist in the Office of Public Outreach at the Space Telescope Science Institute. The Hubble Space Telescope is a joint NASA and European Space Agency project and was launched in 1990 by the Space Shuttle mission STS-31 into a low-Earth orbit 600 km above the ground. We will be talking with Dr. Green about this extraordinary space telescope.
