Forest crews plan prescribed burns near Mirror Lake Highway

Fire crews are conducting prescribed burns in the Uinta Mountains near Mirror Lake Highway this week.

Fire crews with the Evanston Ranger District are starting prescribed burns this week in the Uintas.

Burns are scheduled through Friday along North Slope Road near Carter Creek. Smoke may be visible from Mirror Lake Highway. Fire officials ask recreationalists not to report it.

Forestry crews say prescribed burns are a form of wildfire mitigation that reduces fuels in areas prone to fires.

Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest officials recommend residents in wildfire-prone areas have a go-bag prepared, know evacuation routes and have a designated family meeting place in the event of a fire.

This Wildfire Preparedness Week the forest service is reminding Utahns where to get the most up-to-date information on wildfires and prescribed burns.

Officials say to check local forest service social media pages and the Utah Fire Info website for projects that may impact travel and recreation.
