The Utah Department of Transportation is warning residents about a tolling scam claiming drivers have unpaid balances.

The department said the scam texts and calls seeking personal information reported earlier this year have ramped up over the last few days.

UDOT’s main office received more than 500 inquiries last week asking about the validity of texts and calls. Utah’s transportation department said it does not send texts or make phone calls to collect tolling fees.

UDOT urges anyone who gets a call or text about an outstanding toll balance not to provide any payment information and to contact the department.
