Another event in the Heber Valley has become a casualty to COVID-19.
The Heber Market on Main is cancelled for the month of June. Heber City Manager Matt Brower reported the news to the city council at Tuesday evening’s council meeting. The farmers market and concert in the park usually takes place each Thursday evening in the summer. Brower says they hope the event might continue in July or August, although he says that would require modifications such as social distancing and limiting vendors.
Brower says he also received a report that the county is looking at curtailing or rolling back events at the fairgrounds. Additionally, the Midway Swiss Days and the Heber Valley Cowboy Poetry Festivals have both been cancelled.
Heber City’s Police Department is staying healthy during the pandemic. Police Chief Dave Booth told city council Tuesday night that his officers have also taken on new responsibilities due to COVID-19.
“Our PPE’s are holding up well,” Booth continued. “Our officers are healthy, we have no one on quarantine or sick at this time. We’ve been going out visiting with our local restaurants. Just ensuring that business is going OK, that they’re in compliance with the health order and helping the Health Department ensuring that our citizens stay safe. So, we’re taking an active part in that. I think it's great opportunity for officers to get out in the businesses and to check on them and see if there's any needs or anything that we can do to help them.”
City Attorney Mark Smedley also gave an update on the Heber Justice court, where they are dealing with some items remotely.
“We are confident that the calendars are being handled, so that we won't have a blockage that comes up in May or June,” Smedley said.
While Heber City administration has continued to provide limited services during COVID-19, all that work has been done without the public inside the building. Brower says the city is now looking at Monday May 18 as the day they open up city hall.
