Body Of Missing South Jordan Man Found In Summit County

Summit County Sheriff's Department

Searchers in the High Uintas on Tuesday afternoon found the body of a Salt Lake Valley resident who has been missing for nearly a week.

The search located 66-year-old Ray Humpherys in the Middle Fork drainage area, about a mile and a half from where he had last been seen.

A press release from the Summit County Sheriff’s office said Humpherys was found at about 3:00 pm Tuesday. The statement said there is no foul play suspected in his death and his injuries are consistent with the harsh terrain and environment.  The body has been taken to the State Medical Examiner’s office.

Humpherys was a physical education teacher at a Lehi elementary school.

He went missing last Wednesday the 18th during a camping trip near Hidden Lake. He was last seen at about 10:00 pm that night, after telling his family he was going down to the lake to get some water for their campfire.

In the search, Summit County Search and Rescue were joined by personnel from the state, Utah, Wasatch and Davis Counties, the Forest Service and volunteers from the Garrett Bardsley Foundation.

Sheriff Justin Martinez said he and his team express their sincere condolences to the Humpherys family.
