Candidate Withdraws Name For County Recorder

The Summit County Democratic party will not, after all, be having a contest for Summit County Recorder. The party has received word that one of the candidates is withdrawing.

On Tuesday, Park City attorney Alex Natt sent a letter to the Democratic Central Committee. He said he still has a passion for public service but now feels that Rhonda Francis, the current acting Recorder and a long-time staffer in the department, has the right skill set for the job.

In his message, Natt said that since the election of November 8, 2016, he’s been more convinced than ever that people of good conscience have to actively participate in the political process.  He said, “Prior to 2016 in my 51 years on the planet I have never felt that our republic is at risk. I feel now that it is. It is critical that those of us who believe in fairness, social justice and equal opportunity for all stand up and be counted.”

Though he filled for the Recorder’s office last week, given the resignation of Recorder Mary Ann Trussell, he said he’s withdrawing in favor of Francis, after examining her qualifications and her passion for the job.

Natt said he may stand for office in the future.

The County Democratic Party is scheduled to meet tonight 6:00 pm at the Park City Library, to nominate a Recorder candidate for the November ballot, and to submit a name to serve as Recorder for the remainder of this year.
