UDOT Expects Several I-80 Projects To Conclude This Fall

UDOT has several upcoming projects scheduled for sections of I-80 in Summit County. Starting August 1st and going through mid-October, UDOT will be working on the Tollgate Bridge. UDOT Travel Information Manager Lisa Miller explains the project.

“It’s a 70-day closure that’s going to continue through mid-October. We’re extending the life of the bridge and enhancing safety for drivers.” Miller continued, “Expect day time work activities between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm. There may be some intermittent night activities as well and some lane restrictions. Ultimately this is going to improve the pavement and make a better ride for drivers.”

The Tollgate Bridge will be closed; however, the exits will still be accessible. Meaning Promontory Ranch will be accessible if you are headed Eastbound towards Wanship. Tollgate Canyon road will be accessible if you are headed Westbound towards Park City.

Drivers trying to access a road that would normally require them to cross the Tollgate Bridge will have to drive past the Tollgate exit and turn around at either Silver Creek Junction or Wanship.

Additionally, I-80 will have some nighttime closures to install a wildlife crossing bridge.

“So Tuesday, July 31st at about 8:00 pm through Wednesday August 1st at about 6:00 am, we’re going to have a westbound closure of I-80 from mile post 141 through 137. Which is Jeremy Ranch to Lambs Canyon area. Local residents can use Kilby road to travel between Jeremy Ranch and Parley Summit during that closure.” Miller further explained, “Wednesday August 1st through Thursday August 2nd from 8:00 pm until 6:00 am we’re going to have an eastbound closure at that same location. Drivers can use 1-84 through Ogden or U.S. 40 to U.S. 189 to Provo Canyon as alternate routes if you’re going a long distance through that area.”

The wildlife crossing bridge construction is in addition to an additional truck lane on westboundI-80 from Jeremy Ranch to Parleys Summit, complete wildlife fencing in both directions and the noise barrier near Jeremy Ranch.

“It’s being done in conjunction with the climbing lane project. In order to construct the new truck lane and noise wall we did remove that wildlife fencing.” Miller said, “The noise barrier being built near Jeremy Ranch to mitigate the freeway noise for nearby residents. So that project will be in conjunction with that climbing lane and complete in November.”
