Basin Rec Offering A Variety Of Services Over The Holidays

Basin Rec

The director of the Snyderville Recreation District, Brian Hanton, came on KPCW Monday to outline what the District is offering for the holidays, and the near future after that.

Hanton said that between Christmas and New Year’s there’s activities on hand for the youngsters out of school.

“For those who have kids who need something to do we have a full day camp. These are all Wednesday to Friday. So, the 26th, 27th and 28th. So, we have a full day camp where they’ll start at the Fieldhouse, they’ll play games in the gym. They’ll do some arts and crafts, they’ll go over to Ecker Hill and the swimming pool in the afternoons. It’s a full day, it’s from 9:00-4:00 and we’ll definitely keep your children busy there. That’s for children ages 6-12. We’re also offering basketball camps and baseball camps during those same days in the evenings. If you go on our website on BasinRecreation.org you can get more details on times, and costs and all that stuff.”

There’s also access at the District Fieldhouse.

“For those kids in school we’re offering free admission with their school I.D.’s. So, they can come and use the gymnasium, the field if there’s open time. Access the facility, if they’re old enough to be up in the weight rooms, over 14, they can come and get a workout in. We’re trying to find these other things for kids to do so when they don’t have school, they’re not finding mischief out there if they don’t make it up on the ski hill.”

He also outlined the programs available after the first of the year.

“With our youth programming, we have Jr. Jazz basketball. So that’s basketball for ages 3rd grade to 9th grade. We also offer we call it Little Foot soccer, that’s our pre-school to 2nd grade soccer. For the kids those are the options there. We also have some adult programing, adult soccer league, adult basketball league. We’re also offering a learn to ski program for Nordic Ski. Every Sunday at 10:00 we have staff out there teaching people the ropes. They see all these people doing these great things on skis and if they’re a little afraid to get started and try it out we’re offering, it’s $50 for a month. They can come and learn the basics and utilize our free trails that our staff works so hard to put together out there.”

And as 2019 gets underway, Hanton said they will be busy with Master Planning.

“The community can look out for a community survey. We’re going to send that out probably mid-January. Then we will go on to our facility demands study. With all hopes of looking at our strategic master plan, we re-did that about five or six years ago. Knowing that the community has changed quite a bit over that time, we just want to make sure that when we put our facilities together or are looking for park development that we are doing what the community has in mind and what they want to do.”
