Heber And Midway Planning Commissions Meet Today

Heber and Midway Planning Commissions meet today to discuss amongst other things, standards for storage sheds and standards for cul-de-sac sizes.

Heber Planning Commission meeting takes place 6:00 pm on Tuesday evening at Heber City Office Building on Main Street. The meeting will begin with a public hearing to consider possible adoption of standards for commercial storage sheds.

Staff presented to the Heber Council at their annual retreat on January 5th about storage sheds. Council members expressed concern that without regulation Heber would become a recreation garage for residents of the Wasatch Front as many Utah and Salt Lake County residents store their boats, ATV’s and other outdoor toys in Heber.

The staff report listed a few benefits to the city for having storage sheds, they collect property taxes and they are also compatible with land near the airport and the sewer fields. Cons listed in the retreat power point mentioned that storage sheds do not create jobs or generate sales tax. The presentation also noted that they are generally considered unattractive and that the strong market for storage sheds was consuming limited industrial land.

The presentation also noted there were 13 storage shed facilities in Heber City with seven more anticipated to come. The public hearing at the planning commission will open the session at 6:00 pm.

The Midway Planning Commission also takes place on Tuesday evening. The meeting takes place at the Midway Community Center at 7:00 pm items on the agenda include proposed amendments to limit maximum length and number of dwellings allowed to access from a cul-de-sac and discussion about some possible subdivisions.
