Performances Cancelled As Utah Officials Announce Restrictions On Public Gatherings

The state of Utah has restricted public gatherings to 100 attendees or less starting Monday, but many other organizations are already sending out cancellation and rescheduling notices for performances this week.

This weekend’s sold-out show at the Egyptian Theater  has been cancelled. According to Theater Director Randy Barton, Moe has agreed to reschedule the dates but those dates are still to be determined. All ticket holders he says will be offered a full refund. If possible, he says the theater would prefer that the refunds come in the form of a gift card that can be redeemed for any upcoming show over the next year. Each patron, he says will be contacted to determine their refund preference.

In addition, the Egyptian Theater is cancelling performances of Newsies the Musical. The same refund policy applies. Upcoming shows in April he says will be addressed at a later time.

In response to requests by Summit County, The Park City School District and the Governor’s Office, the Park City Institute has cancelled its Saturday’s Saints and Sinners fundraiser and T-Bone Burnett concert on March 21st. Executive Director Ari Ioannides said in a statement quote, “while there is nothing we love doing more than putting on amazing events, it is clear that in order to assure the safety of our patrons we can’t hold any events during this uncertain time.”

Ioannides says they will work to reschedule Saints and Sinners as well as next week's T Bone Burnett concert and are working on a plan to honor tickets for future events.

Monday’s Leadership Park City annual lecture has also been cancelled. The CEO of Alterra Mountain Company – the owner of Deer Valley Resort - Rusty Gregory was scheduled to address the community. Leadership Co-Founder Myles Rademan says he hopes to reschedule this later this year as well.

The Peace House event, The Zen Speaker:Breaking the Silencelence , which is scheduled for March 19, is cancelled. They plan to reschedule this event later this spring.

The state’s proactive measures to limit the spread of COVID-19 in Utah are effective for the next two weeks beginning on Monday, March 16th. At that time, the Utah Coronavirus Task Force will re-evaluate these recommendations to determine the most appropriate actions to take as a state to keep Utahns healthy.

K-12 schools are being asked to prepare to close. There is a 3-tiered plan in place for this, called “Ready, Set, Go.” Currently, the Park City School District is surveying its parents to find out what kind of internet service, if any, students have access to.

All school related out-of-state travel is cancelled. Extracurricular activities will be evaluated by local health officers in consultation with schools.

All Utah Higher Education institutions are ‘going digital.' Campuses and campus services will remain open. Labs will still be held.
