People's Health Clinic Carries On In Time Of Covid-19

People's Health Clinic

The People’s Health Clinic is being impacted by the coronavirus outbreak.    But representatives of the Clinic say they’re not the place to go for someone seeking to be tested.

The Clinic, which serves the uninsured in Summit and Wasatch Counties, has seen a three-fold increase in their walk-in traffic, according to the Clinic’s Executive Director Beth Armstrong.

But if someone shows up at the door, thinking they have symptoms of COVID-19, testing isn’t what the Clinic offers.

“We are directing them to the Hot Line, so that they can then—and a lot of them are just doing it right out from outside our door.   They’re sitting down on the rocks out front and going through those lines and listening to whether or not they can go over to the hospital and be tested.”

She said the Hot Line to call is 844—501—6600.

Armstrong said the Clinic is accepting patients who have an appointment, or emergency visitors.    But even in those circumstances, they’re taking precautions.

“No one comes into the Clinic without sanitizing their hands, putting on gloves and putting on a mask.  We have an individual stopping people at the door to make sure that  they did these things.  And this is more protection for other patients in the lobby as well as our staff, because if our physicians and staff get sick, then we’re not able to provide those services.   We will remain open throughout this Corona outbreak.  And we have a number of CDC guidelines in place, and we’re protecting staff and volunteers and patients.”

Armstrong said if local residents want to help out the Clinic, their biggest need right now is additional staff and supplies.
