Midway Elementary Teacher Wins Cool Teacher Car Lease

Wasatch County School District

Junie Hayter teaches at Midway Elementary School and is this year’s winner of the Labrum Chevrolet yearly car giveaway.

Junie Hayter is in her fourth year of teaching at Midway Elementary School. She says Labrum Chevrolet based in Heber started giving a car to one high school student each year. In recent years, they decided to include teachers in the car lease gift. During the school year, community members acknowledge individual teachers by writing or calling school principals. For every recommendation, a raffle ticket is given to that teacher. At the end of the year, tickets go into a drawing and one teacher is selected from each school.

“Oh, I was just so excited. I went in not feeling super nervous because there's no way I will win. Five teachers had gone, and nobody picked the right key yet, so I started feeling really nervous. So, I picked the key and it’s a push to start car. I pushed it and it started. I just got really excited. I kind of started to tear up 'cause it's just really huge. What a nice thing for these people to do, and I couldn't believe that I won.”

She will be driving a brand-new Chevy Malibu now for the next year. She says the Car Play feature is a real treat.

“So, that’s really handy. I get lost very easily so it's nice to have my GPS right there on the screen instead of trying to see it from my phone.”

Hayter commends the efforts made by the community and the generosity of Labrum Chevrolet.

“It’s just really, really neat that the community cares about the teachers and is willing to nominate teachers and just say thank you. That's really awesome.”
