A Park City School District Administrator has recently received the Change Maker Award by the United Way of Salt Lake City.
On most school mornings, McPolin Elementary Principal Bob Edmiston can be found directing traffic, greeting students and, ensuring their safety as they file into school.
The Park City Education Foundation Executive Director Abby McNulty offered comments to accompany the video shared on the United Way virtual ceremony which recognized Edmiston as a Changemaker.
“Bob's awesome. He is the first person that parents and kids see every single day because he is the man directing traffic out in the parking lot. He has on this giant moose hat with like these huge antlers running around greeting the kids just setting the tone for the day of positivity and good energy.”
“Bob Edmiston represents everything we want to recognize about changemakers. He knows that schools cannot do everything to break down the barriers that kids in our community face. Bob delivers what every parent wants which is that their child is being seen and heard and is engaged and having fun.”
President-CEO of United Way Salt Lake Bill Crimm says that Edmiston is a champion for creating equitable systems so all children can achieve their potential.
“There's no difference in terms of their passion for learning and their ability. What's different are the opportunities that our society puts in front of the kids and Bob's commitment to addressing those inequities is an awesome example for the rest of us.”
“Bob is the most motivated human I think I've ever met he just goes so far above and beyond what you would expect of one human being. He's like 30.”
Edmiston accepted the award on behalf of McPolin and the entire Park City Community acknowledging teachers, students, staff and families.
“I am the poster child for white entitled male and my parents gave me that opportunity with this very clear message. Because of your fortunate situation, you have a responsibility to make sure all families get a chance to have a more equal opportunity to meet their potential. And in the end, it's all about kindness. That's not too hard. The message my parents gave me was to make the place better than the way you found it.”
