Utah Highway Patrol responded to a three-car accident at Deer Creek Reservoir Friday afternoon. One 17-year-old victim was killed and six others were transported to the hospital, according to UHP.
Shortly before 2pm, UHP says a driver veered off the road and overcorrected into oncoming traffic. The vehicle sideswiped one car and hit an oncoming minivan near milepost 24 of SR 189 near Charleston. The driver of the minivan was a 17-year-old boy. Police say the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
Five passengers were inside the minivan. The van occupants and two more from another vehicle were taken to the hospital but did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
The name of the victim has not been released. SR 189 was closed in both directions for several hours; UHP announced on Twitter that the road was reopened shortly after 4:30pm.
