The Summit County Sheriff's Office says emergency crews will resume search and rescue efforts Sunday morning after a backcountry avalanche in the Square Top area outside of Park City Mountain Resort Saturday afternoon.
According to a statement by the Sheriff's Office, crews responded to reports of an avalanche at 3:26pm. The avalanche was triggered by two skiers, one of whom was buried by the slide.
The Sheriff's Office says the second skier was able to locate, dig out the victim, and attempt life-saving efforts before being forced to leave because of the extreme avalanche danger in the area. The danger of additional avalanches also prevented rescue crews from entering the area before nightfall.
Summit County Search & Rescue, as well as a Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter will resume rescue efforts Sunday morning.
The Sheriff's Office has not disclosed any additional information about the victim as the rescue operation is ongoing, but says additional information will be provided once the victim is located.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
