Updated: 3-4 People Involved in Avalanche Near Pfeifferhorn Peak

This story was last updated at 11:00 a.m., March, 15 2021.

Four people were caught in an avalanche Sunday.

Utah and Salt Lake County Search and Rescue responded to an avalanche near Pfeifferhorn Peak on the south side of Little Cottonwood Canyon.

Nikki Champion, a spokesperson for the Utah Avalanche Center, says they believe the individuals were partially buried in the slide, but information at this time is preliminary.

She says it’s likely that there were some ankle or leg injuries.

Sgt. Spencer Cannon, with the Utah County Sheriff's Office, tweeted that all of the victims were rescued. Two of the victims were taken to Intermountain hospital. The other two skiers sustained minor injuries.

Avalanche danger remains moderate in upper, south-facing elevations. Champion says even a small slide could be consequential.

This story is developing, and KPCW will continue to update you as more information becomes available.
