At its Tuesday meeting, the Park City Board of Education discussed the next steps for financing the district's master planning priorities.

No decisions on a general obligation bond have been made. More cost and phasing details have been requested.

Park City School District Superintendent Jill Gildea gave her monthly update to the board and included a historical timeline of the master planning efforts to date. The school district hired MOCA consultants as the owner representative to help navigate the school district through all steps up to occupancy of the new facilities.

Business Administrator Todd Hauber said the MOKI firm would help the board define goals and priorities, assist in hiring architects and the design team. Then they'll help identify general contractors to build out expansions of the existing buildings. They'll interface day in and day out throughout construction and even take responsibility for building occupancy.

The district has integrated input from all the stakeholders to define three top priorities. They are moving ninth grade to the high school, establishing a sixth-through-eighth grade middle school at Ecker Hill and expanding community services to include pre-kindergarten programs at each elementary school. It consists of a wrap-around service for before and after school, located at two of those elementary school locations. Included in the expansion plans, they want sustainability measures that align with Park City's carbon-neutral goals.

A high school and Ecker Hill Middle School remodel cost estimate lies at $88.6 million. They've gauged the cost of expanding the four elementary schools at $35 million.

MOCA Consultant Dave Hart told the board that delays and long, drawn-out construction timelines can add to the price tag. MOCA will return in two weeks with specific cost breakdowns. The board asked them to provide the most efficient, comprehensive phasing expanding all six schools and remodeling for a universal pre-kindergarten program in each elementary school.

The board unanimously approved a special work meeting scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 31.
