The Utah Department of Health reported the most COVID-19 vaccinations administered in one day Thursday.
There were 46,011 people vaccinated for COVID-19 since Wednesday, bringing the total number to 1,410,214 doses administered.
During his weekly COVID-19 briefing, Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said while there still aren’t enough vaccines for everyone, the state will see an increase in doses delivered next week.
"I'm very excited to announce that we will receive over 106,000 Prime vaccine doses that will be our highest single week distribution yet for initial doses," Cox said. "That will be driven in large part by a huge increase in the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, which is a single dose vaccine. Again, we've known from the very beginning that vaccines are the quickest way to end this pandemic.
Summit County has administered 29,020 total vaccines and Wasatch has given out 15,341 doses.
New cases in the state were down week over week Thursday. The Utah Department of Health announced 487 new COVID-19 cases, which is 40 fewer cases than the state saw at the same time last week.
In the Wasatch Back, both Summit and Wasatch Counties saw a decrease in cases week over week.
Summit County reported nine new cases. In comparison last Thursday the county saw 15.
Wasatch County reported four new cases - which down from last Thursday when the county saw seven cases.
There were 7,661 people tested for the first time statewide, with 18,760 total tests administered. On average over 3% of “tests over tests” are coming back positive, while the average percent positivity for “people over people” is just under 7%.
Utah’s Department of Health reported three new deaths. To date, 2,125 Utahns have died due to COVID-19, including 11 from Summit County and 21 from Wasatch County.
The department also reported 29 new hospitalizations. There are 136 people in the hospital for COVID-19, in the state. Just under 70% of all referral center ICU beds are in use.
Cox says all 29 counties in Utah are now under the moderate or low risks levels of the COVID-19 transmission index.
"For the first time we have no counties in high transmission, all 29 of our counties are in moderate or in low - 23 and moderate, and six in low," he said. "This means that everything that we are doing here in Utah, everything that you are doing here in Utah is absolutely working."
Both Summit and Wasatch Counties are in the moderate levels of the index.
