Friday COVID-19 Update: 15 New Cases in Summit County, Six in Wasatch County, Six Statewide Deaths


COVID-19 trends continued on Friday with cases in Summit County, Wasatch County, and across the state remaining relatively steady.


Summit County’s 15 cases on Friday and Wasatch County’s six saw both counties continue a plateau in new COVID-19 infections experienced since the beginning of March. 


Summit County has not recorded a day over 20 cases since February 24th and Wasatch County’s last day over 10 cases was March 2nd.


Statewide, 422 new cases were reported on Friday, beginning the statewide rolling seven-day average for positive tests down to 407.


Averages for the percent of positive laboratory tests increased slightly, with the people-over-people average up .1% to 6.9%. The tests-over-tests average remained steady at 3.4%. 5,761 people were tested across the state since Thursday.


Six additional deaths were reported on Friday, bringing the statewide death toll from the disease to 2,131. All of the victims were over the age of 65 and none were from either Summit or Wasatch Counties. To date, 11 people have died of COVID-19 in Summit County, 21 in Wasatch County.


Hospitalizations saw a slight uptick as well with 138 Utahns currently being treated, up two from Thursday. Statewide COVID-19 referral center ICUs are currently 66.7% full, down two percent.


Vaccinations continued across the state with over 40,000 doses administered, bringing the statewide number of shots in arms to 1,450,000. The Summit County Health Department says 60% of people living in the county have received at least one dose. Wasatch County says they have fully vaccinated 6,195 people.
