The truck was headed north – or downhill – towards the Marsac Avenue roundabout when it lost control, hit a curb and flipped onto its side, according to Park City Police Lt. Danielle Snelson.
Snelson said the driver went to the hospital with minor injuries. The crash around 4:30 p.m. caused traffic delays for several hours until officials cleared the scene after 9 p.m.
Snelson said it’s important that commercial vehicles stop and use the brake check area near Wheaton Way before heading down Marsac Avenue toward the roundabout.
“I think that that would most likely avoid a lot of accidents as they get to the bottom of Marsac [Avenue],” Snelson said. “Our investigators are still looking into it to determine the case, but it’s believed at this point that his brakes malfunctioned.”
Snelson said it’s unclear if the truck driver stopped at the brake check. Trucks weighing over 10,000 pounds are required to stop and inspect their brakes before descending.
There have been a number of crashes involving commercial vehicles near the Marsac Avenue roundabout in recent years.
