Big Hollow Fire Grows To 300 Acres

Jul 16, 2020

A wildfire in Wasatch County has caused a few preliminary evacuations near the town of Daniel.

The Big Hollow Fire started shortly after 5:00 pm on Thursday evening. Although the flames are known to be human caused the fire is still under investigation.

The fire is located in the hills south of the town of Daniel, which is just south of Heber City.  Flames and smoke can be seen from all over the Heber Valley.

By 9:40 pm the fire had grown to 300 acres and had come down the hill encroaching on Daniel. According to firefighters, there are natural control features including Daniels Creek between the fire and communities. No structures have been destroyed but there have been preliminary evacuations on Little Sweden Road.

In early July 2019, a fire broke out in the same area and was given the same name. The 2019 Big Hollow Fire was also human caused. The area has a gun range, but state agencies ruled last year's fire occurred about a quarter mile up the road from the gun range and there was not a connection to the range and last year's ignition.
