After an inaugural season the Ikon pass is back for more. The Alterra Mountain Company’s answer to Vail’s Epic Pass will offer access, although in some cases limited, to five Utah resorts.
Alterra Mountain Company spokesperson Kristin Rust said the company was pleased to announce their second season of the Ikon pass.
“We’re really excited about how much coverage we’ve got in Utah," Rust said. "There’s just so many options between Deer Valley, Solitude, Brighton, Alta and Snowbird that we think it’s an essential product for those in Utah and those that want to come to Utah. We feel like the Ikon pass gives such a great opportunity to find your adventure in Utah.”
Access in Utah resorts will remain the same for the 2019/2020 season as this current season. Alta spokesperson Andria Huskinson says the pass has been one contributing factor to a successful season.
“Our Skier visits are up this year across the boards," Huskinson explained. "We’ve seen an increase in our passes, so the Ikon Pass, Mountain Collective pass users but we’ve also seen a big increase in our season pass holders and day ticket window sales. I think overall everyone’s excited. We have lots of snow this year and we already exceeded what we got for all of last season.”
Although some season pass holders at Deer Valley and resorts in Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons have complained about crowds, Brighton spokesperson Jared Winkler says they’ve viewed the pass as a success.
“I mean as you’ll probably hear from different people some people love it, other people may not love it but for us we’re happy," Winkler continued. "It’s increased our skier visits it has brought us additional revenue to places like our food and beverage our rentals our lessons. So, it’s helped make a great season even better.”
Alterra said they won’t be releasing any skier day numbers and that they don’t disclose the length of their agreements with resorts that participate in the pass.
The Ikon pass goes on sale on March 5th discounts will be offered for renewals. Other new items include a payment plan, a child pass promotion and springs access to select destinations including April access to Solitude resort. The company has two passes The Ikon Pass which has no blackout dates and The Ikon Base Pass with blackout dates and less days at some resorts.
