The Summit County Health Department announced the county’s third and fourth COVID-19 case Friday morning.
Summit County’s third and fourth cases are both adult males younger than 60. Both are also visiting Summit County from out-of-state and both have exhibited mild symptoms. The two individuals did not travel to Summit County together.
In their release Summit County stated that for patient privacy reasons and in compliance with HIPAA law, no further information will be released regarding their demographics.
Summit County’s Health Department is working to identify and contact anyone who may have been in close contact with the confirmed cases. People who may have been in contact with these individuals will be monitored by public health professionals for symptoms related to COVID-19.
The third and fourth cases in the county follows Thursday’s second case, who was also an adult male under 60, who had come to Summit County from elsewhere in the U.S. That individual is in self-isolation at an undisclosed location and has mild symptoms.
The first case of COVID-19 in Summit County was also a man younger than 60, although this man had come home to Summit County after coming in contact with the virus while traveling in Austria. That case was announced on Wednesday.
Summit County Health Department also said beginning the week of March 16, the department will limit confirmed case announcements to weekly updates released every Tuesday before noon. If or when community spread occurs, it will be announced separately as soon as it is confirmed.
Symptoms of COVID-19 are similar to what someone may be experiencing as the result of seasonal influenza – namely a fever, cough, or shortness of breath. The health department says these symptoms on their own are not worrisome and should not cause alarm. If someone exhibits these symptoms and has traveled to an area or been in close contact with a known positive case, they should immediately notify their health care provider by phone.
