This Green Earth - November 3, 2015

The State of Utah continues to consider the construction of a large pipeline that would convey water from Lake Powell to Washington County and the St George area.  Chris Cherniak and Katy Wang spoke with Zach Frankel the Executive Director of the Utah Rivers Council about the project, its costs and whether or not 21 economists can change the mind of one governor. Then on the second half of the show they spoke with Stanford Professor Marc Jacobson.  His article in the latest National Geographic is titled, A Blueprint for a Carbon Free America. In it, professor Jacobson outlines how energy in the U.S. could be carbon free by 2050, on a state by state basis. They spoke to him about how this is possible and what Utah's electricity portfolio would look like if it used only renewable energy sources like wind, solar, hydro and geothermal.
