Francis Resident Arrested After Drunkenly Firing Off Over A Dozen Shots

Summit County Sheriff's Office

The County Sheriff’s department reports a Francis resident picked the wrong way to celebrate Christmas. After falling into a Christmas tree while drunk, he fired off a gun over a dozen times, without hitting the two other residents in the house.

Elsewhere, officers for both the county, and Park City police reported they were dealing with another rash of vehicle burglaries.

Charges were filed against 56-year-old Randal Weed Dickinson, whose birthday, according to a Probable Cause statement, is Christmas Day.

The sheriff’s incident report, and the Probable Cause document, said officers on Sunday responded to a residence on Spring Hollow Road. The homeowner and his son report that Dickinson, who was highly intoxicated, tried to cross the living room but fell onto the Christmas tree and knocked it over.

The pair told him to go back to his room and sleep it off.

Dickinson reportedly came back out of his room with a 9-millimeter firearm. He fired 15 times at the other two residents, but hit only the walls, cabinets and appliances. When the firearm was empty the other two subdued Dickinson until deputies arrived.

The incident report said there was no apparent confrontation before Dickinson fell on the tree.

He was transported to the hospital for injuries, and later booked into the county jail on several charges, including Felony Discharge of a Firearm, Aggravated Assault, Criminal Mischief and Carrying a Dangerous Weapon while under the influence of alcohol.

Meanwhile, officers from the county and city reported a string of vehicle thefts in the Round Valley area on Saturday. At the Highland Drive Trailhead, the owner of a black Volvo SUV reported he was away from his vehicle only about 10 minutes and returned to find its rear window smashed out. Several bags with driver’s licenses and credit cards were stolen. One person’s credit card was used later that day at Wal-Mart for over $1,000 in purchases. Deputies were not able to locate any suspects.

At the same trailhead that day, the front of a Subaru Crosstrek was smashed out. The owner found out her purse was stolen, along with credit cards, cash and an iPhone.

Later that night, Park City police said a victim went looking for their property in a trash can near the Round Valley dog park. They found two purses connected to the burglary cases.

Also on Saturday night, a women reported her purse was stolen from her unlocked vehicle while she was visiting the Run-a-Muck dog park on Olympic Park Drive.
