PPE Available For Summit County Businesses As Eased Openings Commence

PCMC

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be distributed to small businesses in Summit County. Procuring the PPE in bulk orders is a collaboration between Summit County, Park City Municipal and the Park City Chamber/Bureau.

The service is still a work in progress according to Park Ctiy Economic Development Director Jonathan Wiedenhamer. He says the program is designed to help small businesses acquire protective products at cost. They’v e got about 400 gallons of hand sanitizer from Alpine Distilling and 800 non-surgical masks.

“And that’s what we were able to procure. We’ve been working with Rob Sargent over at Alpine Distilling. He's offered that to us at cost until we were able to get that intwo different deliveries. And then the County has a separate order in that will have on the order of like 90,000 pairs of gloves I think about 30,000 masks and another three or 600 gallons of hand sanitizer. And we expect that in over the next two to three weeks.”

Summit County Public Health officials are expected to announce a new order on Friday which anticipates a measured opening of businesses. With that order protective practices will be required by business owners as they navigate this new directive.

Weidenhamer says everyone must bring their own containers for the sanitizer. He says they’ll ask people to take only what they think they’ll need for the next couple of weeks.

“You know, we haven’t quite figured out how we’re going to bill people. We do expect people to pay for our cost so we're not going to be able to give it away but at the same time the worst thing that's at about 30% of what the free market cost. And then we'll keep a log of how much you were able to take or how much you need. And then we'll send you an invoice at a later date. I think that's the way it's going to work. It's still a bit of a work in progress.”

There will also be a limited number of thermal thermometers available in several weeks but Weidenhamer isn’t sure how those will be distributed.

Weidenhamer says the goal of this program is not to provide PPE for personal use but to help small business with easy, inexpensive way to help the local economy and safely reopen during the pandemic.
Hand sanitizer from Alpine Distilling will be available on Friday, May 1 from 1:00-5:00 p.m. at the Park City Miner’s Hospital at 1354 Park Avenue. County health protocols will be followed during pick-up. Proof of business licensure will be required. Sanitizer will be distributed in increments with a maximum of one gallon per business. Businesses must bring their own containers. The price is $.28/oz. No cash will be collected. Businesses will be invoiced later.

Phase 2 distribution of masks, gloves and thermometers will be announced when the product arrives.
