Heber City Police say the bear fled across the U.S. 40 towards the hospital and the sheriff’s office headquarters.
It continued its tour of town with stops at On the Run gas station and the Royal Coachman mobile home park.
Officers forced the bear up a tree until the Division of Wildlife Resources arrived. DWR personnel safely tranquilized the bear and transported it out of town.
The black bear is the only species of bear that lives in Utah.
It’s not common to see bears in highly populated areas, but if you do run into one, the DWR recommends standing your ground, staying calm and giving the bear a chance to leave. If a black bear attacks, you should always fight back.
