The Park City COVID-19 testing location is moving indoors Tuesday to prepare for the cold weather.
Since May, Intermountain Healthcare and the University of Utah have been working together to test patients at the Intermountain Park City Hospital. Those tests have been administered at drive-in clinics in the parking lot.
But starting Tuesday, there will be no more outdoor testing. The U of U will provide testing inside at the Redstone Health Center. Testing hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Sunday.
And, starting Wednesday, the hospital will also resume testing indoors. Their hours of operation will be Monday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
Kylene Metzger is with U of U Health. She said moving indoors won’t change the safety of testing.
“There's a lot of speculation around it. But for all of our sites, we're moving indoors,” Metzger said. “We're having a completely separate area for non respiratory and respiratory patients.”
Both facilities have moved to saliva-based COVID-19 tests. Metzger said that will also help keep medical personnel safe.
“So instead of the nasal swab where the medical assistant was actually doing it themselves, they're just handing the test tube over to the patient, and after they spit, they give it back to the medical personnel,” she said.
Appointments are required to get screened at Redstone but are not required at Intermountain. All tests are free, even for people without insurance.
