Trial Date Set For Man Who Gave Marijuana To Teens

A trial date has been set for a Basin resident who’s been charged with allegedly dispensing marijuana to six teenagers at a party last December.

The defendant, 45-year-old Adam Childers is also accused of subsequently instructing or threatening the youngsters to conceal the crime from police.

In a Third District Court appearance, Childers defense counsel Greg Skordas and prosecutor Blake Hills indicated they haven’t come to a plea agreement.   Judge Patrick Corum set a three-day trial for September 4th through the 6th.

Childers is on pre-trial release.    The judge granted one request from the prosecution—for random drug testing of the defendant.

But he turned down the state on another item.    Childers has been ordered not to have unsupervised contact with children, or to contact any of the youngsters  who were alleged witnesses at the party—including Childers’ son.

Prosecutor Hills said they believe the defendant arranged to have the son come back from Idaho, where he was staying with grandparents and reportedly the two are in contact. Hills asked the court to authorize random home visits for Childers.

The judge turned that down, but warned Childers to follow the restrictions on his pre-trial status. Defense attorney Skordas said his client has been in compliance.
