Local Law Enforcement Responds To Series Of Thefts, Gas Leak

Among the reports from local law enforcement, Summit County Sheriff’s deputies kept busy last week with a number of burglaries of unsecured vehicles.

Last week, on July 18th, a complainant in the Canyons area reported that while he was sleeping in his car, someone reached in his open window and stole his cell phone, which was attached to his windshield by a section cup.

Later that night, a Jeremy Ranch resident said that as he drove up to his home, he saw an individual in the front seat of his son’s vehicle—who when spotted, fled toward their back yard. It was later discovered the suspect stole money from the unlocked vehicle. Deputies circulated in the area but didn’t find the suspect.

On Thursday the 19th, the owner of a Jeep in the Pinebrook area said someone had entered his vehicle, which has a missing back window, and stole his duffel bag. The bag had a variety of items, including a sleeping bag, toiletries, a knife and a sewing kit.

Meanwhile, in Park City, the police reported this weekend that they evacuated a lodge in upper Deer Valley after receiving a report of a gas leak. Captain Phil Kirk said they got a call early Sunday morning, the 22nd, from the Black Bear Lodge on Royal Street.

He said personnel responded from the Park City Fire Department, the City Building Department and Dominion Energy, and they evacuated nearly 100 people.

Captain Kirk said they were unable to find the source of the smell. He said after a number of hours they determined the air was clear and allowed occupants back into the building.
