Park City Teen's Pre-Trial Rescheduled

A Park City High School girl facing drug distribution charges returned for a short appearance in juvenile court Friday. A pre-trial hearing was scheduled but has been deferred for about a month.

The girl, who allegedly played a role in the opioid overdose deaths of two boys in September 2016, is now facing four counts of drug distribution. Charging documents filed against her last summer say she had ordered drugs from overseas on the dark web.

Her defense attorney, Mary Corporon, said Friday they have received some information on Discovery from a federal agency, through the County Attorney’s office. But she suspects they have more information, and she wanted more time to pursue that.

Juvenile Court Judge Elizabeth Knight continued the case to November 16th.

The defendant is currently in treatment. She only spoke in court to tell the judge that she was doing well in the program.

Prosecutors say the girl was involved in the deaths two years ago, of friends Grant Seaver and Ryan Ainsworth, two 13-year-olds who attended Treasure Mountain Junior High. They died, a couple days apart, after overdosing on the synthetic opioid known as Pink.

That occurred, said prosecutors, after two juvenile boys asked the girl if they could have a shipment containing Pink delivered to her address.
