The 3rd Annual Shotski Event In Park City Breaks Breckenridge's Record

About 3,000 people showed up for the Park City Sunrise Rotary’s 3rd Annual Shot Ski Event on Old Town’s Main St. Melissa Allison has more:

The goal was to break Breckenridge’s record for the longest communal shot ski. It took several hundred skis which were bolted together, end to end – to serve the 1,275 people organizers prepared for.

But they exceeded their goal – setting a new world record with 1,300 people, setting a new record.

Jordan Marks has been to all three shot ski events and brought his girlfriend Holly Hadley along who was a first timer.

Marks saidthe event offers more than a $25 dollar shot of High West Distillery’s award-winning Double Rye.

“You know, its something to do. Its cool to be able to, you know, finally make my parents proud, and be in the record books of the longest shotski," Marks said. "No, its just a fun event to get you out on a nice day like this and have a good time.”

People came from all over to be a part of the historical moment, dressed in costumes of all sorts - including Hilly and Paige Hillenmeyer and their friend Tim Harp who were all decked out in their Lederhosen and Dirndl.

Hilly and Paige Hillenmeyer said they couldn’t wait to dress up for the record-breaking event.

“We all just moved here from Germany so, we wanted to break out the…” Hilly Hillenmeyer said.

“Yeah, we didn’t get to wear it this fall so what better time?” Paige Hillenmeyer said.

The trio met in Germany – Harp said they all work for the same company.

“That’s where we became friends," Harp said. "And then we decided we were coming to Park City, so we all came here.”

Andrea Donegan has participated in each event and brought her two friends, Amanda Stafford and Tracey Askins.

The ladies wore tutu’s and Donegan said deciding to join in on the fun was a no-brainer.

“It’s a fun way to get the whole town out and together," Donegan said. "Its almost always locals out here – it’s just a blast.”

Even one of KPCW’s volunteer DJ’s, Jay Z was lined up for a shot. It was his first shot ski event and he had one thing to say, even before the shot was taken.

“It’s great fun, lets do it next year too,” Jay Z said.

All of the proceeds benefit Park City Sunrise Rotary Club’s Grant Program. Based on last year’s success – they’re hoping to raise about $25,000.
