Ledges Event Center Open For Business

Summit County Sheriff's Office

Summit County’s new event center in Coalville is open for business.

The new Ledges Event Center was part of $5 million worth of upgrades the county committed to the fairgrounds in Coalville. Summit County assistant manager Janna Young says the building is now available to rent.

“We really consider Summit County’s gem. With this five-million-dollar investment the council made not just in this building but also in updating the livestock barns for the county fair. An opportunity to really modernize that site and to just provide an event center for particularly this side of the county but throughout the county. For folks who normally didn’t have a place to host their reunions or have a trade show, or a wedding. It’s also a wonderful place for the county to bring in more programming and events and also to host some of our own meetings there. It really is a beautiful facility and we want people to know about it and come use it.”

The building is over 11,000 square feet and can hold up to 1,600 people. Young says that due to safety and wear and tear concerns they are limiting renters to just 500 people at an event.

“Tell you a little bit about the make-out of the building. There is a kitchen a warming kitchen. There is an oven and a stove in there but its not commercial, industrial size so it’s an opportunity to do some food prep, warming and there’s a microwave and a refrigerator and a sink and then a window where you can serve from as well. We do have a conference room, an office-space, foyer and then a multi-purpose room”

Young says the building is available for anyone to rent.

“Everyone and anyone. The only prohibitions are we obviously can’t use it for someone’s place of business. Like I mentioned you can do fundraisers or trade shows but in terms of say you’re a small business and you need a kitchen to do your catering business out of it’s that type of things that we’ll be prohibiting. We also restrict routine meetings as well as recreational or physical activities such as basketball, but it truly is open to reserve for any type of event that anyone would need.”

Young says that renters can bring their own food or use their own caterer. The county also provides a preferred vendor list that renters can use if they choose.

The county has tables and chairs available for up to 250 people. If renters wanted to seat more people, they would need to rent additional seating elsewhere.

Young says the county will have a website up for the venue soon, but you can call the county’s facility department to rent in the meantime.

“We have found in booking there are often many questions and rather than going back and forth over e-mail we do prefer that in person conversation or over the phone. You can obviously get more information set up a time to tour the facility ask any other questions about our rental agreement that you would need. All the information, as well as photos, will be on our website.”

The facility will not be available during the fair and during other scheduled times that the county needs it.

“In our rental agreement it does talk about how there’s a certain period of time that we provide but if the county has something come up or a need and it may impact your event the county event will take precedent. We will obviously help you find another space, but we certainly don’t intend on doing that often. We will know about the fair and those prior scheduled events and we’ll be sure to schedule around that.”
