US Skier, Mikaela Shiffrin Breaks Records

US Ski Team

The US Ski Team finishes a strong showing for 2018. Highlights of the last event of the year include record breaking wins for Mikaela Shiffrin, strong finishes for the Men’s Downhill Alpine Team and the Olympic Women’s Cross-Country hero, Jessie Diggins showing her strategic and technical abilities in the grueling Tour De Ski. Carolyn Murray has this:

Mikaela Shiffrin continues to rewrite the record books, according to US Ski and Snowboard Communications Director, Tom Webb. He said she won her 51st world cup event and her 36th career FIS Ski World Cup slolom victory in Semmering, Austria on Saturday. She leads the women’s all time Word Cup slolom racers.

Webb said he received reports about the downhill in Bormeo calling it gnarly. In spite of the rigor of the course, the Men’s Downhill team brought home strong results. Bryce Bennet from Squaw Valley California matched his career best coming in fourth and finishing just off the podium right behind Switzerland’s  Beat Feuz by just 15 hundredths of a second.  Steve Nyman came in 16th and Jared Goldberg scored his first World Cup points of the season. He finished 28th.

The Cross-Country Tour De Ski is a grueling 10-day race with different events in different cities each day of the event. As of this report, 2018 Olympic hero Jessie Diggins from Afton, Minnesota took her first podium of the season and is in 2nd place overall after 2 days of racing. Sadie Bjornsen from Winthrop, WA finished sixth and Sophie Caldwell from Stratton Mountain, Vermont came in ninth. continues
