Deer Valley Announces $7.6 Million In Capital Improvements For 2019/2020

Deer Valley Resort has announced a $7.6 million in capital improvements for 2019/2020.

Deer Valley Resort announced the multi-million-dollar improvement Monday morning.  Deer Valley’s Senior Communications Manager Emily Summers says the resort will make improvements in several areas.

“The most notable improvement coming up for next winter is adding RFID technology or electronic gating system to our chairlift,” Summers explained. “What that will do will is help people move through our chairlift system and lift lines and lift mazes more efficiently as well as create that direct to lift access. So if you’ve pre-purchased your passes or have a reloadable card or season pass you won’t have to go to the ticket office you can go direct to lift.”

The resort plans to test and work out exactly where the RFID scanning gates will be placed through the summer of 2019.

The resort will also be adding digital signage at base lodges that will have real-time info available on ticketing availability and pricing, lift operations, grooming conditions and other information.

The resort is also buying four new snowcats and making other investments in snowmaking.

“Every year we do an improvement or upgrades to our snowmaking system,” Summers continued. “I’ve said it many times before, but snowmaking is an insurance policy for us. It’s something that we always want to have the latest and greatest. So you will see snowmaking on our list almost every year in the history of our capital improvements. This year again purchasing additional low-energy guns, new fan guns and updating control systems. Then we’re always replacing snowmaking pipe which is quite a project because those are underground. That’s something that people will definitely notice each summer, as that’s an improvement that takes place during the summer months.”

The resort will also replace ski and bike rental inventory with new equipment. They’ll also add shuttle buses and other Cadillac vehicles to their guest transportation fleet.

In addition, Deer Valley will have facility and equipment upgrades to resort day lodges, facility, recycling center and IT.

Deer Valleys parent company Alterra Mountain announced a total of $181 million in capital improvements to all 14 of the company’s resorts ahead of the 2019/2020 season. Updates at Solitude Mountain Resort located in Big Cottonwood Canyon include maintenance, and safety improvements, a new snowcat and snowmaking infrastructure.

Deer Valleys Season Passes, Locals Only Passes and the Ikon Pass all go on sale on Tuesday March 5th.
