A six-year-old Wasatch County girl was dragged by a school bus on Monday afternoon.

According to reports from the Utah Highway Patrol the girl was exiting the bus at about 3:45 pm near the intersection of US 40 and Potter Lane when her backpack became stuck on a portion of the bus, highway patrol believes potentially the wheel. She was dragged about 10 to 15 feet before the bus came to a stop.

Wasatch County School District released a statement saying that the student was transported to Heber Valley Hospital. The district also said that they and the Utah Highway Patrol are currently investigating the incident and the driver has been placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.

The district also said that safety and well-being of their 7,000 students is the number one priority of the district, and that their thoughts are with the student and her family.
