Park City School District: Survey Asks For Input On School Calendar

PCSD

Do you want the schools to preserve the winter break in February? How long should it be? What about UEA, now called Fall Recess? One day or two? Should school start before or after Labor Day? The Park City School District is conducting a calendar survey and the chance to give input ends on Wednesday at midnight so if you want to have a voice in future school calendar decisions, go to pcschools.us and take the survey.

The Park City Board of Education wants to make school calendars two or three years in advance. The 2019/2020 calendar is already established but the input they receive will determine future calendars. Communications Director, Melinda Colton says they’ve received extensive feedback so far with over 1000 responses.

Hanover Research is conducting the survey. She says it’s comprehensive and research based.

“It’s not like a google or a survey monkey or something like that.  Superintendent wanted it to be very confidential and secure on private servers and things like that.”

Colton says the survey takes about 10 minutes. It asks for input on winter breaks, start and end dates and graduation timing. Last year, Park City held graduation prior to the last day of school which was unusual. Colton says that’s common practice for the Salt Lake Valley school districts.

“We’ve heard, oh we need to have that whole week off for ski week. It’s like a sacred cow here. So, I’m anxious to see what people say about that.  And, you want two days off for fall recess or one day?

Questions are in both English and Spanish and they’re hoping to get input from everyone in the community. The survey closes at midnight on Wednesday. They hope to have the results by the June 19th board meeting. Go to pcschools.us to take the school calendar survey.
