Teacher Appreciation Week Is In Full Swing

Tuesday  is  National Teacher Appreciation Day. It’s part of a week-long celebration of educators and staff. It includes a smorgasbord of treats, meals, processions and pampering.
Parent Teacher Organizations, along with students tend to take charge in the week long celebration of teachers and staff. Schools tend to have their own theme and approach to show their appreciation for teachers and staff members.

In South Summit School District, PTO President Andrea Richins says they’re doing an outdoor, camping theme.

“So, we did, we need s’more teachers like you and made their door look like a fire pit and they have some marshmallows that they’re roasting on there and all the stars are the students in their classrooms."

They started their appreciation week with a breakfast waffle bar, and they’ll provide lunches, snacks and an Italian soda fountain later this week.

Park City School District PTO President, Megan Ludack says Trailside Elementary has set up the Walk of Fame for their esteemed staff.

“So, when you walk into the school, we’ve got a large sign in our main lobby that just says Trailside Walk of Fame. We’ve got lights that are sparkling all around it and then lining the wall, we’ve got the teacher’s stars that are place. And, they look very similar to the actual Hollywood Walk of Fame stars."

Jupiter Massage will come in with seated massage chairs to further indulge Trailside teachers. Students also play a part in the recognition.

“They have different themes for each day this week, as well. So, today starts with thank you notes to your favorite staff member. We’ve got bring your favorite staff member a flower day.  There are a couple of others. My favorite is happening on Friday which is dress like your favorite teacher day.”

Shelly Moore, Secretary at the North Summit High School says the PTO provided lunch on Monday and a group of students have orchestrated sweet appreciation for their teachers for the remainder of the week.

“Something sweet and nice. They’re doing something for the teachers every day this week. You know, we are a small school. Obviously, you know that. So, they get pretty tight with their teachers. And, our teachers, like I said, are amazing.”

Teacher Appreciation Week is nationally recognized but here in Summit County, it’s a local connection between educators, parents and kids. Photos highlighting some of the festivities can be found on KPCW.org.
