Summit County Sheriff’s Lt. Andrew Wright said they got a call just after 6:00 pm Saturday, reporting that a nearly-two-year-old child had been struck near a residence on Upper Loop Road in Marion.
He said the child’s parents, from Provo, had been attending a family birthday party. The lieutenant said as the girl wandered out into the road, her mother was trying to retrieve her.
He said there was a parked car and a large bush along the roadside that made it difficult for the oncoming car to see the girl wander out. The driver, a 23-year-old Marion man, immediately braked when he saw the girl, but was too late. He pulled over and his fiancé, a 22-year-old Springville woman called 911.
The responding deputy administered CPR to the child, who was taken by ambulance to Park City Medical Center, and then by air to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake.
Lt. Wright said the got word late Sunday from her father that the girl had died.
