Stabbing In Pinebrook Leads To Two Arrests

Summit County Sheriff's Office

Summit County Sheriff deputies have arrested a Salt Lake couple, after a Pinebrook resident said an encounter with the pair at his home turned violent early Monday morning, and he was stabbed and beaten by a male suspect wearing a ski mask.    The investigation is ongoing.

Sheriff’s Lt. Andrew Wright reported that they got a 911 call from the 63-year-old victim shortly after 4 a.m. Monday.

Officers learned that the victim had responded to a Craigslist advertisement from the female suspect offering housekeeping services.    She came to his residence at around 1 a.m.

Lt. Wright said they’re still looking into why the meeting took place in the middle of the night.

“It sounds like there may have been more involved than what we are initially being told from the get-go about it being a housecleaning—whatever it is that they were looking to do, more than just this housecleaning service.  Unfortunately, because our victim in this case is in pretty bad shape as far as his injuries, he is still in the hospital.   And so we’re trying to work through a lot of these details while he’s hospitalized.”

The woman reportedly texted the male suspect,  her husband, and told him to enter the residence.    Lt. Wright said they don’t know yet why an altercation started, but the husband began beating the victim and stabbed him several times.   The pair then fled the area.

Officers are hoping to get further information from the victim, who is hospitalized in Salt Lake.    While he didn’t suffer life-threatening injuries, he will require significant facial reconstruction.

Deputies tracked down the couple, in part by using contact information on the victim’s phone, and arrested them late Monday morning, at their residence in the area of 39th South and State Street.

They are identified as 42-year-old Steven D. White, who has been charged with Aggravated Assault and Aggravated Burglary; and his wife, 37-year-old Amber Lynn Lands, charged with Burglary.

Lt. Wright said they haven’t determined yet if any items were stolen.   But Burglary charges can be filed against a suspect if they unlawfully enter a residence to commit a felony.
