Snowboarder Dies in Backcountry Avalanche

Utah Avalanche Center

A backcountry avalanche near Park City Mountain's Canyons Village Sunday morning caused the death of a 45-year-old Salt Lake City man.

The Utah Avalanche Center reports the victim was snowboarding in Dutch Draw.  He accessed the area through the gate at the top of the 9990 lift.  Shortly before 11am, he was traveling down the Conehead area of Dutch Draw when he triggered an avalanche and was caught in the slide.

UAC says the slide was three feet deep and 100 feet wide.

No further information was made available about the snowboarder's identity.   There was another avalanche fatality in the same area in February, 2012.
