Soldier Hollow Opens This Weekend:Tubing, Mini Snowmobile Rides And Free Nordic Skiing Plus Rentals

Soldier Hollow

The Soldier Hollow official public opening is Friday with the cross-country ski trails, and the tubing lanes open starting at 10 AM. Saturday has all kinds of activities including a free Nordic day that includes gear rental, access to trails and a mini clinic.

Soldier Hollow resort in Midway opened Nordic trails to season pass holders earlier this month but now they’re ready to kick off their public opening with a free ski day along with other activities. Guest Engagement Senior Manager Jennifer McCulloch says it’s a good time for families to come out and have some holiday fun.

“In conjunction with the celebration of our opening day we're going to have Waffle Love here all day they'll be here from noon until 8:00 PM and then again the free mini lessons will be from 1:00 to 3:00 PM and then at 3:00 to 5:00 PM We’ll have free photos with Santa Claus, free face painting, free hot chocolate.”

Mini snow mobile rides were introduced last year and were very popular with kids ages four to twelve. McCollough says it opens for the season on Saturday offering rides from 10 AM to 8 PM every day through the holidays. After the holidays, mini snowmobile rides will be available Fridays through Mondays.

Tubing will be open seven days a week through the holidays with extended hours starting at 10AM and shutting down at 8PM.

Cross Country skiing includes 30 kilometers of groomed trail which are open every day through the season. They are hilly and challenging but they offer beginner trails too.

“We do have some beginner skiing. It's not right outside of our day lodge. It's a little lower in the venue where our competition management building is. There's some really great beginner skiing down there, so once you're up here and you can kind of get familiar with the trails there are definitely some beginner areas. You just have to get down to them.”

Season passes are still available for Nordic skiing at $150 for adults, and $75 for youth and seniors. Day passes for adults are $10 and for youth, they’re five. McCulloch says Saturday is an opportunity to enjoy all of the skiing experience for free.

“On Saturday to celebrate the opening of the season we are having an opening day celebration that day. We will have skiing free all day so it's a great opportunity to come out and try cross country skiing. We will have free mini lessons from 1:00 o'clock in the afternoon until 3:00 o'clock in the afternoon. We can set you up with equipment and give you an overview of skiing. And then the trails for our opening day celebration on Saturday are free so even if you're an experienced skier, come out and try our trails free for the day.”

Lessons and rentals are available through the season. The higher-level ski programs are already underway and the Kickers and Gliders Program for the younger kids starts after the holidays in early January. They can schedule guided snow-shoe tours and biathlon as part of their group offerings.
