Summit County Sheriff Reports Fraud Accusations, a Fight Over Headgear and More

Summit County Sheriff's Office

Among the recent incidents reported by the Summit County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded when a fight broke out at a party over a hat; and a local resident and a finance company traded accusations.

The Sheriff’s report said that on July 29 they received a complaint from a 57-year-old Park City woman who said she was being harassed by a finance company in Coalville. She said her house had been threatened with foreclosure in May. She borrowed $33,000 from the company and had to repay the loan in 46 days or lose the house to the lender.

However, a representative of the finance company reported that the woman had shifted the title of the house to a different LLC in order to void her agreement.

The incident is being referred to the County Attorney’s Office to see if the woman’s actions rise to the level of fraud.

In another case, a 51-year-old Coalville woman reported that her son’s vehicle was stolen from a local mechanic’s shop where it had been taken for service.

The vehicle, ready for pick-up, was last seen on Saturday, July 25. An employee coming in the following Monday noticed the car was gone. According to Sheriff’s Lt. Andrew Wright, the shop owner said the keys had been left in the car.

The car was listed on a national registry of missing vehicles and it was located in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on Wednesday, July 29, by a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper.

Finally, deputies responded early on the morning of Aug. 6, at 1 a.m., when a brawl broke out among several young party-goers at an address on Highland Drive.

A 20-year-old woman hosting the party said she was upstairs, heard a fight and was hit when she rushed down and tried to break it up. Reportedly, someone at the party was wearing a San Francisco hat, and another person made disrespectful remarks about San Francisco.

Lt. Wright said there were about 10 people at the party and most were not identified. Those who had not fled the scene weren’t able to give much detail, since they had been drinking heavily.

The deputies found people bleeding, with black eyes, and one 21-year-old male from Salt Lake City was taken to the hospital with moderate facial injuries.

Lt. Wright said two of the attendees were cited for drinking alcohol under the age of 21. He said the youngest person identified was 18.
