Summit County Sheriff's Office tells KPCW a 31-year-old Utah man triggered an avalanche in the Dutch Draw area on the Canyons Village side of Park City Mountain Resort shortly after 10am Friday.
Lt. Andrew Wright says a man from Clinton, Utah, and his girlfriend exited through a backcountry gate near the 9990 chairlift. The girlfriend told rescuers she saw him trigger an avalanche and get buried. A search helicopter received a signal from a RECCO reflector, which is a small transponder that makes the wearer searchable to professional rescue teams, indicating someone at the site of the avalanche.
Search and rescue crews and medical personnel are currently on the scene.
As of this report, no recovery of the victim has been made.
KPCW will have a full report later today.
