As Utah ramps up its COVID-19 testing, the state continues to see a decline after the holiday season spike in cases.
The Utah Department of Health announced 2,146 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, which is almost 1,200 less cases than the state saw at the same time last week.
After Summit County reported the second highest increase of 71 cases Monday, the county saw a dip in their upward trend when the health department reported 31 new cases Tuesday.
Wasatch County reported 19 new cases. In comparison, last Tuesday, the county saw 22.
The state saw an increase of 11,991 new tests administered. The statewide 7-day rolling average for positive tests is just over 29% which is down from Monday’s average.
Summit County’s seven-day average of positive laboratory tests is 27%, and more than 32% of tests are coming back positive on average in Wasatch County.
Utah’s Department of Health reported 26 new deaths, however 15 of the reported deaths happened before Dec. 22. The department noted it can take a couple of weeks for medical examiners to investigate the cause of death. To date, 1,422 Utahns have died due to COVID-19, including six from Summit County and 16 from Wasatch County.
Utah’s Department of Health reported 119 new hospitalizations. There are 560people in the hospital for COVID-19, in the state. Statewide, 88.5% of referral center ICU beds are in use, which is up from Monday.
6,983 people were vaccinated for COVID-19 since Monday, bringing the total number to 110,530 first doses administered.
