Wednesday COVID-19 Update: 2,159 New Cases Statewide, 48 Cases In Summit County, 42 In Wasatch

  The Utah Department of Health announced 2,159 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday, which is more than 700 fewer cases than the state saw at the same time last week. 

The state reported an increase of 10,916 new tests administered. 

Summit County reported 48 new cases. In comparison, last Wednesday Summit County saw 64 cases.

Wasatch County reported 42 new cases. Last Wednesday, the county saw 53.

The statewide 7-day rolling average for positive tests is almost 19% which is down from Tuesday’s average. However, both Summit and Wasatch Counties’ averages are above the state’s - with Summit reporting close to 22% and Wasatch reporting around 27% of lab tests coming back positive.

 

Utah’s Department of Health reported ten new deaths. To date, 1,517 Utahns have died due to COVID-19, including six from Summit County and 16 from Wasatch County.

Utah’s Department of Health reported 84 new hospitalizations. There are 551people in the hospital for COVID-19, in the state. Statewide, over 91% of referral center ICU beds are in use. 

8,566 people were vaccinated for COVID-19 since Tuesday, bringing the total number to 181,169 first doses administered. Both Summit and Wasatch Counties started vaccinating residents 70-years or older this week.
