Nuzzles & Co., a local no-kill animal shelter and adoption agency, could be recovering for a month or more after its Adoption Center at the Outlets Park City was struck by a flood Friday afternoon.
Nuzzles & Co. Executive Director Lindsay Ortega told KPCW that the main water line to the outlet mall broke on Friday afternoon at about 3:15 p.m. The Center was flooded for several hours.
“The Adoption Center is right in front of where the main water line broke,” she said. “And so the water was actually coming under the wall, and then under the walls and up, I think, from parts of the ground and through the foundation. It was an incredible amount of water.”
She said the cats at the center were evacuated. Summit County Animal Control housed them for a couple of days, and now almost all of them have been placed with foster homes.
Ortega said the flooding ruined everything in the center below one foot. They’ve been drying out the facility.
After that, they will have to replace all the floors, cut out sheetrock, and carry out other reconstruction. She said the repairs will take up to two months. The agency is taking public donations to support them.
