Park City Fire Chief Paul Hewitt is in critical condition after an off-duty accident, according to a statement from the fire district.

The Park City Fire District announced Thursday morning that Chief Paul Hewitt was critically injured on the afternoon of Monday, July 19th, during a family vacation.

No additional details on Hewitt’s condition or the accident were made available, per the family's request.

Hewitt spent 20 years with the Salt Lake City Fire Department before becoming Park City Fire Chief in 2011.

The district added Hewitt’s family requests people keep him in their thoughts and respect their privacy at this difficult time.
